Events and Open Days

Again this year Endeavour, but this time skippered by ‘Brum’ sailed among the splendid Thames Sailing Barges competing in the Southend Barge Match. An excellent opportunity to view and take photographs  was taken up by new members Dave and Sue Proctor who joined Brum, Peter, Anne and Michael on board. The  chill breeze meant that those on board had to keep well wrapped up but it helped the barges achieve a brisk racing speed.

We have participated in three community events over recent weeks starting with the Leigh Society Open Day in July. Dunkirk is never far from the hearts and minds of Leigh, and this year is the 75th anniversary of the evacuation. We were on hand to tell our story and the Leigh Society highlighted other aspects of the event.

The 2nd Leigh Maritime Festival held  at the beginning of August  was again popular, attracting hundreds of visitors. Many visited our stall and went aboard Endeavour.

The Hoy Sea Shanty Crew
New members joined and we enjoyed a reasonable fund raising day. Once again the Hoy Sea Shanty Crew, pictured right, took the opportunity to sing on board.

The 2nd Leigh Regatta organised by the Lions Club was a stunning fund raising success. New members joined, donations were received, prints and postcards together with twenty-three 2016 calendars were sold.  Thanks are due to everyone who helped at these events but special mentions go to Anne for  producing  the calendar and for getting some printed in time for the regatta, and also to Linda Marshall who was so instrumental in achieving a record fund raising in excess of £400.
